Bechdel Test

I choose Spiderman as an example of analyzing how the Bechdel test and reverse Bechdel are applied to its context. The reason why I choose Spiderman is that there is one female character a main character(Spiderman) loves and there is a friend/enemy who also loves the same female character. Spiderman is an action movie and battle scenes with main enemies are always the main scenes of movies in any series of the movie. 

However, there always be certain story lines that related to his love toward main female character. and there is only one other female character in Spiderman, his aunt. There are only two female characters in the movies, who are his lover and aunt. There are only two female characters and they are not even friends or relatives, but the conversation they had in the movie  related to a man, Peter Parker, Spiderman. The main female character and his aunt, only two female characters in the movie always talk about his man or his nephew. This is interesting that even in the movie like Spiderman, there are always female characters talking about a man. 

Additionally, when Spiderman  and his friend who loves the main female character talk, not all the time but a lot of the time they are talking, they talk about their lovers, the main female character. the love story line on this movie  is a little bit complicated because the main female character was, at first, Spiderman’s secret lover and his friend was actually dating with her.  But as the movie progressed, the main female character was saved by Spiderman and they started getting along with.

In Spiderman, there is more likely to The Smurfette Principle than Never a self-made Woman. His lover and aunt are interacted to other male characters such as Spiderman, the main enemy, and his friends. There are more male characters than female characters and they are interacted in different ways in the movie. The main female character is interacted to Spiderman as a lover, his friend as an ex-lover, and the main enemy  kidnapped her in the movie. His aunt is interacted in similar ways. 

It is surprising that even in spiderman, there are always the possibility of Bechdel test and other test applied and failed them in certain ways. The gender roles are always played in any movies and behind that, there is always interaction between males and females.
